Beyond Academics

When I’m not immersed in research or coding, you’ll find me adventuring in various interesting places. 🔍

I believe true creativity comes from a balanced life. A marathon clears my mind, a cappella offers me another form of expression, and a tennis match or fishing trip connects me with friends.

Welcome to my world beyond academics—filled with sweat, harmonies, and some unexpected stories!

🏃‍♂️ From Manga to Reality

My marathon journey began in early 2023, inspired by Takagi Naoko’s marathon manga series! Those illustrations filled with joy and sweat, plus a “time to lose some weight” thought, pushed me onto the race track.

From zero to completing my first half marathon, the biggest discovery was that my body could do much more than I imagined. Running has become part of my life—I especially enjoy those early morning runs on undisturbed roads, chasing a better version of myself one step at a time.

  • 2023 Yunlin Huwei Roast Chicken Half Marathon - 1:57:40 (The chicken in supply station was my motivation to reach the finish line 😋)

🎵 Finding My Note

My a cappella journey started when I stumbled upon videos of Acapop! KIDS and Pentatonix. The magic of pure vocal music instantly captured my heart.

During college, I’ve worn multiple hats as a baritone, bass, and vocal percussionist, but ultimately found my home in the bass section. The deep bass range surprisingly became my most comfortable form of expression.

I particularly enjoy practicing chord breakdowns—although those complex harmonic combinations often make us dizzy with repetition, the moment when all voices finally blend together makes all the effort worthwhile! That harmony is simply indescribable.

🎾 Freedom on the Court

A physical education class in my sophomore year unexpectedly became the starting point of my relationship with tennis. Three years later, I’ve evolved from awkward beginner movements to flowing matches, a journey filled with sweat and joy.

Tennis is my unique form of stress relief. Those hours chasing the little yellow ball on court are precious moments when I can completely forget about research pressures. Although my serving technique still has significant room for improvement (seriously, serving is incredibly challenging!), my weekly tennis time is always a highlight I look forward to.

I love the sense of challenge tennis brings—perhaps that’s what attracts me most about it. Every match is a fresh start, and every point requires complete focus.

🎣 Anticipation Beneath Still Waters

Fishing has been my passion since childhood. Sitting by the water, time seems to slow down, allowing thoughts to settle into peaceful clarity.

Recently, I’ve developed an interest in lure fishing—this more active approach is full of challenges and strategy, waiting for me to explore when time allows.

My most memorable fishing experience was an unexpected catch of a small yellowfin tuna during a trip to an offshore island! Though not particularly large, the excitement of that moment remains vivid in my memory. Standing by the sea, feeling the vibration through the fishing rod, anticipating the unknown catch—that’s the magic of fishing.
